Proceedings of the 1st International and Interdisciplinary Conference on Digital Environments for Education, Arts and Heritage
This book gathers peer-reviewed papers presented at the 1st International and Interdisciplinary Conference on Digital Environments for Education, Arts and Heritage (EARTH2018), held in Brixen, Italy in July 2018. The papers focus on interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary research concerning cutting-edge cultural heritage informatics and engineering; the use of technology for the representation, preservation and communication of cultural heritage knowledge; as well as heritage education in digital environments; innovative experiments in the field of digital representation; and methodological reflections on the use of IT tools in various educational contexts. The scope of the papers ranges from theoretical research to applications, including education, in several fields of science, technology and art. EARTH 2018 addressed a variety of topics and subtopics, including digital representation technologies, virtual museums and virtual exhibitions, virtual and augmented reality, digital heritage and digital arts, art and heritage education, teaching and technologies for museums, VR and AR technologies in schools, education through digital media, psychology of perception and attention, psychology of arts and communication, as well as serious games and gamification. As such the book provides architects, engineers, computer scientists, social scientists and designers interested in computer applications and cultural heritage with an overview of the latest advances in the field, particularly in the context of science, arts and education.

Digitales Colormanagement

Smart Grapics
The International Symposium on Smart Graphics 2003 was held on July 2-4, 2003 in Heidelberg, Germany. It was the fourth event in a series that started in 1999 as an AAAI Spring Symposium. In response to the overwhelming success of the 1999 symposium, its organizers decided to turn it into a self-contained event in2000. WiththesupportofIBM,the?rsttwoInternationalSymposiaonSmart Graphics were held at the T. J. Watson Research Center in Hawthorne, NY. The 2003 symposium was supported by the Klaus Tschira Foundation and moved to the European Media Lab in Heidelberg, thus underlining the international character of the Smart Graphics enterprise and its community. The core idea behind these symposia is to bring together researchers and practitioners from the ?eld of computer graphics, arti?cial intelligence, cog- tive psychology, and ?ne art. Each of these disciplines contributes to what we mean by the term "Smart Graphics": the intelligent process of creating expr- sive and esthetic graphical presentations. While artists and designers have been creating communicative graphics for centuries, arti?cial intelligence focuses on automating this process by means of the computer. While computer graphics provides the tools for creating graphical presentations in the ?rst place, cog- tive sciences contribute the rules and models of perception necessary for the design of e?ective graphics. The exchange of ideas between these four discip- nes has led to many exciting and fruitful discussions, and the Smart Graphics Symposia draw their liveliness from a spirit of open minds and the willingness to learn from and share with other disciplines.

Interactive 3D Graphics in Windows®
Interactive 3-D Graphics in Windows is a hands-on book which uses a component software approach to help Visual C++ programmers quickly and easily develop windows-integrated, interactive 3-D graphics applications. The book includes JOEY, a 3-D user interface toolkit which addresses interaction issues not dealt with in the Microsoft User Interface Style Guide. JOEY provides a 3-D user interface, 3-D tools OLE Linking and Embedding and OLE automation within the MFC framework so that the application programmer can focus on application functionality. Using this book and JOEY, an experienced Visual C++ programmer can create an interactive 3-D application in a few hours. Roy Hall and Danielle Forsyth are the founders of Crisis in Perspective, Inc. in Portland, Oregon. Crisis in Perspective develops modeling systems for architects and building professionals which facilitate modeling and animation in the same way that word processors facilitate written document design; powerful, flexible, and extensive modeling systems for people that do not yet know exactly what they want to build.

Integration of Graphics and OSI Standards
The offices of GMD-FOKUS in Berlin provided the venue for a meeting in December 1987 which signalled the birth of the ARGOSI project. The proposal gradually took shape over the following months, and after merging with another project proposal in the field of standardization of computer graphics, finally received funding from the Esprit programme in March 1989. The project stemmed from a recognition of the importance of computer graphics a'i an ena bling technology in many application areas, and of the need to build bridges between computer graphics and telecommunications. The overall aims of the pro ject were twofold: ¿ Advance the state of the art in the transfer of graphical information across international networks. ¿ Improve quality and applicability of standards in this area. This book records the key results of the project and the contributions the project has made to standardization related to the transfer of graphical information across open networks. Contributions have included a demonstration of a prototype appli cation - a road transport information system running over public international of a new data networks - shown at the Esprit '91 exhibition, the standardization FT AM document type allowing structured access to graphical information (represented according to the Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM) standard) and major contributions to a mapping of the X-Windows protocol onto an OSI stack. The project also organized two international workshops. the first on Graphics and Communications, and the second on Distributed Window Systems.

Advanced Modelling for CAD/CAM Systems
Reiner Anderl The Advanced Modelling part of the CAD*I project aimed at the development of a new generation of modelling techniques as a basic functionality of future CAD/CAM systems. The methodology and concepts for advanced modelling techniques, their availability in the communication interface of a CAD/CAM system and their influence on internal interfaces in the software architecture of a CAD/CAM system are fundamental results of advanced modelling work. These results form the basis for the development of a new generation of CAD/CAM systems which are called product modelling systems. CAD/CAM systems today mainly support the geometric description of a technical part or its description as a technical drawing. Advanced geometric modelling capabilities deal with parametric design functions embedded into CAD/CAM systems. However, development strategies for future CAD/CAM systems are directed toward the following: 1. The development of product modelling systems and 2. the development of integrated systems based on CAD, CAP (Computer Aided Planning), CAM and other CIM (Computer Integrated Manu facturing) functionalities.
