This volume, Tales Told By The Kathaakaar, is the first in a set of collections covering indigenous tales from Central and Southern Asia. Tales Told By The Kathaakaar traces the arc of storytelling across countries that we are familiar with such as Pakistan,Bangladesh and India. In particular, this volume also reaches deeply into the ancient Indian tradition of storytelling, which is an absolute delight.

Despite having a relatively recent history, the Urdu short story, or afsaana, has grown to become one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature. Selected short stories from contemporary Urdu fiction that appeared in various issues of the magazine "Hayat" are collected in the book "Taariki mein Parinde."

This book is ninth and the final part of the complete compilation of all short stories written by Saadat Hasan Manto. The series contains 9 titles in total. Manto is widely considered to be the greatest Urdu short story writer. Manto is famous for his works in Urdu fiction at the time of the partition of India and Pakistan in the mid-1900s.
