Detroit's Cass Corridor and Beyond
Detroit's Cass Corridor & Beyond is part memoir and part art book by veteran journalist Suzy Farbman. For many years, she covered design for national and Detroit publications and ultimately created her own home as an homage to the best of familial antiques and contemporary art. In color photos and vivid anecdotes, Suzy tells the story of her support of Detroit's first avant-garde art movement, the first generation of Cass Corridor artists.Starting in the late 1960s, a scrappy band of creatives began working in the Cass Corridor area of Wayne State University in Detroit, many using assemblages of whatever materials could be found or scrounged. Jackie Feigenson, a sculptor turned gallerist, considered their work exciting, original and worthy of serious representation. Jackie gave up her art practice to open the Feigenson Gallery in midtown Detroit's iconic Fisher Building, one of the landmarks designed by Suzy's great uncle Albert Kahn. Farbman visited the Feigenson Gallery, viewed its opening show of Michael Luchs' rabbits, and was hooked. She purchased a rabbit of wood, rags, wire, and paint as her first foray into collecting contemporary art. This was Jackie Feigenson's first sale in her new gallery. The book includes photographs of Suzy's homes in Franklin, Michigan, and Sarasota, Florida, and informal snapshots of friends in and out of the art world. Featuring stylish images by renowned photographer Beth Singer, this book is written with wit, wisdom, and personal perspective. In welcoming readers to her book, Suzy writes: "By opening our doors and telling our story in these pages through vivid images and anecdotes, I am sending a personal love letter to each reader. As you turn these pages, I invite you to celebrate with me the love of family, the joys of collecting, the resilience of one of the world's great cities, and the brilliant diversity of Detroit's artists."She continues: "Over many years as a journalist covering design, I saw a wide range of living spaces. When I summoned all that I had learned from others, I was convinced that a beautiful home could be designed to include our shared family history, fond memories that continue to unfold in our lives, as well as bright artistic visions. If you agree that beloved objects make a place a home, you will enjoy the adventures that bring this book to life."

Thuis/Home. Paper Biennial 2020
The main theme of the 2020 Paper Biennial is the topical subject of 'Home'. In our globalized world it has become less common to live in the same place where we were born. More than ever, and for many different reasons, people emigrate. But the one thing everyone has in common is that they long for a safe home. Home is a universal understanding with many meanings and interpretations. For everyone it is essential to call a place home; absence of a home is disruptive and will blow away the ground under every existence. Recent figures speak of 68 million refugees in the world and 5 million stateless people; they are not recognized by their government and do not have a passport.

The Paper Biennial 2020 shows the many interpretations and meanings of the term 'Home' that artists give to it in their work. They are personal views that deal with domestic circumstances that can be easily felt by everyone. The artists participating in this book are socially committed and/or provide insight into their work as a world citizen. The sum of the visions on the 'Home' theme are testimonies of the universality that everyone clings to love and security.

Text in English and Dutch.

ARS SACRA
Ars Sacra, or sacred art, has always been an integral part of the Roman Catholic Church. From the frescos of Giotto and Michelangelo, to the canvases of Caravaggio and sculptures of Donatello, churches throughout Italy, and around the world, have been the home of numerous artworks that explore the central mysteries of faith with images that illuminate the scriptures and interpret their meaning for those who seek a greater understanding of our divine purpose in life.Commissioned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese, and after a period of biblical and theological study, Italian artist Carla Carli Mazzucato began the process of creating images for a fourteen-painting series that would become the Stations of the Cross for the Church of Corpus Domini in Bolzano, Italy. In her distinct modern-expressionist style, Mazzucato chose to present not only the traditional, scriptural story of Jesus Christ, but also her thematic interpretation of how His journey and sacrifice impact each of us personally in the complex, modern world in which we live. This book is a presentation of the Faces of Redemption original oil painting series by Mazzucato which was installed in the Church of Corpus Domini, Bolzano, Italy in 1991. The book also presents the artist's Via Crucis series of fourteen original woodcut prints that likewise explore the central mystery of faith in our search for understanding. Each image is accompanied by the artist's own reflections on the divine example of Jesus revealed through His story. Three editions of the book, English, Italian and Spanish are available.

ARS SACRA

Reflections
Reflections: The American Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art adds a novel and provocative element to the library of art museum collection catalogs. In the traditional manner, Reflections features selected works-more than 125-from the museum's collection, accompanied by concise essays by scholars of art who reflect on and respond to the distinctive aspects of each work. To this customary approach, the editors have added what they term intersections essays: an examination of a well-known work of art from the differing perspectives of two authors-most of whom are not art historians. For instance, acclaimed writer Joyce Carol Oates provides her perspective on George Bellows and is joined by Laurie Bellows Booth, an objects conservator and the painter's granddaughter. The book includes ten of these compelling essays, including contributions by such authors as Adam Gopnik and Alan Trachtenberg.

La Mère La Mer
The first exhibition organized by San Francisco's McEvoy Foundation for the Arts--established in 2017 by Nion McEvoy of Chronicle Books--brings together an impressive selection of works from McEvoy's own collection alongside that of his mother, Nan Tucker McEvoy, both world-renowned collectors whose family legacy began with the founding of the San Francisco Chronicle in 1865. This impressively executed catalog illustrates the Foundation's wide-ranging debut show, which highlighted the family collections' strengths, documented here alongside an essay by curator Kevin Moore and an introduction by Nion McEvoy. A particular emphasis on Californian artists (Richard Diebenkorn, David Hockney, Ed Ruscha, Wayne Thiebaud) is matched by a wide array of recent acquisitions by artists including Anne Collier, Roe Ethridge, Nan Goldin, Carsten Höller, Ragnar Kjartansson, Zoe Leonard, James Welling and Christopher Williams, across mediums including sculpture, photography, installation, painting, video and illustration.

An Anthology of Work
Michael has been a serious artist since his fifteenth birthday, on which his father bought him his first set of oil paints. Since then, Michael has taken AP art in high school, majored in art at the Ohio State University, and dabbled in painting, illustration, comic book and board game design throughout his ten-year career as a Japanese translator.Michael currently maintains a busy life juggling interpreting and translation work, co-raising his two children with his wife, and somehow finding time to develop three to six long-term projects at a time. But the fear of settling into a banal non-existence acts as a great motivator, and the artist continuously rediscovers that a devotion to storytelling and creation acts as the fuel needed to persist during such small windows of opportunity.

Creators and Consumers: Women and Material Culture and Visual Art in 19th-Century Texas, the Lower South, and the Southwest
At the fifth biennial David B. Warren Symposium, seven scholars examined contributions made by women to the material culture of nineteenth-century Texas, the Lower South, and the Southwest. The resulting papers explore such diverse topics as women's creative enterprises in Texas, their artistic contributions, as seen in the making of fine art, quilts, sunbonnets, and memorial hairwork pieces, and their role in adapting personal spaces such as an antebellum parlor and African American homes after the Civil War.

In this volume, Mel Buchanan shares insights about the woman behind the furnishing of an important antebellum parlor. Whitney Stuart discusses Reconstruction-era African American material culture as expressed by women in their new free homes. Katherine Burlison reveals one woman's impressive literary and artistic accomplishments in New Orleans. Katherine J. Adams provides interpretive analysis of quilts from Texas and the Lower South. The paper on sunbonnets by Rebecca Jumper Matheson provides a unique window into nineteenth-century Texas. The publication concludes with an essay by Lauren Clark focused on decorative memorial works woven of hair.
