Europäische Kunst

Die Schweizerische Post hat sich seit 1924 als wichtige Akteurin in der Förderung und Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst in der Schweiz etabliert. Den Grundstein dafür legte der Bundesbeschluss zur Hebung und Förderung der Schweizer Kunst von 1887 und insbesondere die Verordnung über die eidgenössischen Kunstpflege von 1924. Mit einem Bestand von mehr als 400 Werken manifestiert die Kunstsammlung der Post ein weitreichendes Engagement für die Kunst in der Schweiz, das weit über den blossen Ankauf von Arbeiten hinausgeht. Seit 2020 gliedert es sich in drei Kerninitiativen: die eigentliche Kunstsammlung, den Bereich Kunst am Bau und die Veranstaltungsreihe Kunst in der Peripherie. Zum 100-jährigen Jubiläum der Kunstförderungstätigkeit der Schweizerischen Post erscheint dieses Buch. Es legt den Fokus auf 100 Künstlerinnen und Künstler, die mit Werken in der Sammlung vertreten und hier mit biografischen Daten und Angaben zu ihren Werken verzeichnet sind. Besonders hervorgehoben werden zehn aufstrebende Talente, die mit Porträtfoto, einem kurzen Interview, Biografie und Werktext vorgestellt werden. Der handliche, sorgfältig gestaltete Band illustriert so Vielfalt und Tiefe der Schweizer Kunstszene in hervorragender Weise.

Das Darstellen des Sehens ist ein zentrales Thema in der Kunst von Markus Raetz (1941-2020). Mit der Silhouette eines Fernglassichtfelds hat er dafür bei Zeemansblik eine so schlichte wie überzeugende Form gefunden. Von diesem Zinkblech-Relief entstanden zwischen 1985 und 1999 rund zwanzig Fassungen in unterschiedlichsten Dimensionen. Das titelgebende niederländische Wort Zeemansblik (wörtlich: Blick des Seemannes) kann mit Seeblick übersetzt werden. Blik bedeutet jedoch zugleich auch Blech. Die Doppeldeutigkeit des Titels weist sachlich auf das Material hin und fordert zugleich dazu auf, die vom horizontalen Falz im Blech bewirkte Linie als Meereshorizont zu deuten. Die Veränderung des Betrachtungsstandpunktes führt zu wechselnden Lichtreflexen auf dem gewölbten, blanken Blech, die als unterschiedliche atmosphärische Stimmungen wahrgenommen werden. Für die Betrachtenden wird so aus einem schlichten, abstrakten Objekt an der Wand ein Marinebild ohne Malerei mit dem Sehnsuchtsmotiv des Blicks in die blaue Ferne. Franz Müller beschreibt in diesem Buch - dem 7. Band der Reihe Schlüsselwerke der Schweizer Kunst - die Komplexität hinter der scheinbaren Einfachheit von Markus Raetz' Zeemansblik und zeigt auf, was das Relief zu einem Schlüsselwerk der Schweizer Kunst macht.

2024 marks the centenary of the publication of André Breton's Surrealist Manifesto, and thus the birth of the Surrealist movement. This French language book, whose title derives from the literary magazine Le Grand Jeu, which was published between 1928 and 1930 by a young group of French artists who diverged from the movement, celebrates 100 years of Surrealism through historical retrospection, interpretation, and a contemporary perspective. Themes such as identity, metamorphoses, esotericism, Kabbalah and magic are dealt with, as well as speculation, abstraction and automatism. With essays by Paolo Baggi, art historian and curator, Pierre-Henri Foulon, curator of contemporary art at the MCBA in Lausanne, Susan Laxton, photo historian and professor at the University of California in Riverside, and Juri Steiner, director of the MCBA in Lausanne, alongside contributions by the poet Gorge Bataille and the author and curator Boris Bergmann.

Aldo Mozzini. Casematte is the first major book on the work of Swiss artist Aldo Mozzini. Published in conjunction with an exhibition at Museo Casa Rusca in Locarno, Switzerland, it features his energetic art through more than 300 illustrations along with texts by distinguished Swiss curators. A conversation with the artist rounds off the volume, which highlights Mozzini's contribution to the contemporary art scene in Switzerland. Born in Locarno in 1956, Aldo Mozzini has lived and worked in Zurich since the 1980s. Galleries and museums in Switzerland, Italy, and France have shown his works in solo and group exhibitions, and he has won the Swiss Art Award twice, in 2012 and 2019. His oeuvre comprises drawing, painting, objects, photography, sculpture, and installation, moving restlessly from one form of expression to another. The book reviews 40 years of Mozzini's career and explores various aspects of his humorous and poetic art. The impressive body of his paintings and graphic works is closely linked to the sculptures and installations that remain Aldo Mozzini's preferred media.

Innsbruck was founded as a market place in 1133 when the Counts of Andechs bought a field on the left bank of the Inn, today St. Nikolaus.Innsbruck was an important trading post on the Brenner Pass route to Italy some 30 km south, the easiest crossing of the Alps. As part of the Via Imperi, it was under the special protection of the king and the income allowed the city to flourish.There are usually at least four Christmas markets in Innsbruck, and the next one is in the old town the Altstadt, just as you cross from the bridge.The Altstadt the Old Town is rich in what is called imperial architecture buildings from the period Innsbruck was the favored town of the Habsburg emperors of the Holy Roman Empire.

A landmark illustrated history of rural church monuments - the forgotten national treasures of England and Wales<BR><BR>Deep in the countryside, away from metropolitan abbeys and cathedrals, thousands of funerary monuments are hidden in parish churches. Pete Gage has had a successful career in the music industry, as lead vocalist in various blues bands, in particular the Jet Harris Band, Dr Feelgood, and latterly with his own 5-piece blues band The Pete Gage Band. In addition to being a Frome-based musician, Pete is both an artist and a poet, meticulously creating hand-painted mandalas based on Tibetan designs, but with his own westernized style. He studied graphic design in the 1960s at St Martin's Art College, London, and incorporated this training into the creation of his pictures. Reproductions of much of his work accompany these poems. Throughout his life since his late-teens Pete has written reams of poems and free-flowing prose. The 56 poems included here present a cross-section of his verse, often rhythmic, but equally often free. Some of his poems can be quite simple, whilst others can be very deep, such is the expanse of Pete's creative expression.

"Sokunge/As if ". "Sokunge", is a Shona word that describes phenomena that is intrinsically something else other than their appearance. More like deception or dissimulation of form, concept, or sound. In this exhibition, I was looking at forms that appear as something, but upon a closer look, they reference a lot of other things, more like below the surface politics. That is the relationship between hidden and exposed transcripts, it is the subtext, the micro politics. There's a lot of mingling of symbolism in the work itself and layered aesthetics.
