Black Health in the South
A collection of important essays on the health and well-being of African Americans in the southern United States. For African Americans in the southern United States, the social determinants of health are influenced by a unique history that encompasses hundreds of years of slavery, injustices during the Jim Crow era, the Great Migration, the civil rights era, and contemporary experiences like the Black Lives Matter movement. In Black Health in the South, editors Steven S. Coughlin, Lovoria B. Williams, and Tabia Henry Akintobi bring together essays on this important subject from top public health experts.Black activists, physicians, and communities continue to battle inequities and structural problems that include poverty, inadequate access to health care, incarceration, a lack of transportation, and food insecurity. As the result of redlining and other historical and contemporary injustices, African Americans are less likely to own a home or to have equity, which places them in danger of financial ruin if they experience an illness such as a heart attack, stroke, or cancer, for which they are often at greater risk due to many social and environmental factors. At the same time, African American communities display many strengths and are often very resilient against these structural inequities. The use of community coalitions is a valuable approach for addressing health disparities in African American communities, and improving the cultural competence of health care providers further reduces the effects of health disparities. With essays spanning topics from culturally appropriate health care to faith-based interventions and the role of research networks in addressing disparities, this collection is pivotal for understanding the health of African Americans in the South. Public health scholars have examined racial disparities in health in the United States broadly and in specific cities, but this is the first edited collection to focus on African Americans in the South both as a whole and as a distinct population.

The Rise and Size of the Fitness Industry in Europe
This book explores the rise, size and shape of the European fitness industry by using harmonised data as well as in-depth analyses of national surveys in fifteen European countries. Following an introduction to the socio-historical and conceptual aspects of fitness, the collection presents the scope of fitness as a business and participatory activity. Furthermore, both policy and governance issues as well as community and supply angles are considered. Drawing on this unique material, the book will appeal to students and scholars of sport business, sport economics, sport management, and social sport sciences, but also to administrators, policymakers and entrepreneurs in the international and national sport and health community.

Healthcare Gone Wild
We are being screwed over by our health-care system, and it's all our fault!Did you know?- High blood pressure did not exist as a medical diagnosis until pharmaceutical companies invented medicines that can lower it and convinced physicians to sell it to their patients.- There are two kinds of breast cancer: one that will kill you no matter what you do and one that won't. Yet a breast cancer diagnosis will have your physicians ready to cut you open, radiate you, and pump chemicals into your body-all so they can "save" you.- The health-care industry, aka the medical industrial complex, is the largest industry in the US and is doing everything they can to make you a lifelong customer. And they are in bed with big government to stay no. 1.How did America get itself into this mess? Well, we, the people, are partly to blame!- We don't question our physicians, consuming their "cures" to make us live longer and fix all our problems with a simple pill or procedure.- We buy into the media's reinforcement of the above solutions.- And we allow our politicians to take money from the medical industrial complex to get reelected while making the healthcare industry the fourth largest economy on earth!Do you want to live the life you deserve-enjoying your friends, family, and hobbies? Or do you want to deplete your emotional and financial capital and your time bank worrying about every little thing that the media, the government, and your physicians say can kill you?If you answered yes to the former question, read Healthcare Gone Wild. (If you answered yes to the latter, you should read Healthcare Gone Wild immediately; stop living in fear and depriving yourself of happiness now!)

2005 - 2013: Deutschlands verlorene 13 Jahre

Us Universal Health Care in 2020
Most countries in the developed world consider health care a basic human right, but the United States of America continues to struggle with reducing costs and making it available to everyone. Some have proposed that promoting a "Medicare for All" agenda is the answer, but even if it passes Congress and makes it to the president's desk, it would not solve all our problems. The reality is that insurance for everyone does not ensure equal access to quality health care.Richard George Boudreau examines how we got to where we are today in this exploration of the United States health care system, how it compares to other countries, and how it can be improved. Topics include how:insurance companies shifted from being charitable endeavors to for-profit business centers;individual states have approached health care reform;presidential candidates propose to ease the problems surrounding health care. The U.S. health care system is in crisis, but we did not get here overnight. Learn about the history of health care and health insurance, and get a detailed understanding of what we can do make health care affordable and accessible to everyone."Fabulous. Very comprehensive and very logically developed."-Arthur H.
