Wiederholt wird von offizieller israelischer Seite, aber auch in verschiedenen Publikationen beklagt, dass sich manche Europäer, namentlich Deutsche und Österreicher, so auf diesen Konflikt konzentrieren, als gäbe es auf der Welt nicht genug schlimme Dinge, die man beklagen oder deren Veränderung man einfordern könne. Das stimmt natürlich - insofern, als es diese Dinge tatsächlich gibt, und es auch durchaus angebracht ist, sie anzuprangern. Was damit aber versucht wird ist zweierlei: Erstens Ablenkung, was ja ganz nachvollziehbar ist, zweitens aber wird die Behauptung aufgestellt, dass Menschen wie z.B. der Autor dieses Aufsatzes die Gegebenheiten dazu benutzten, ihren unterstellten Antisemitismus in das unverdächtige Gewand der "Israel-Kritik" zu hüllen, was nichts anderes bedeutet, als dass sie schlicht kein Recht hätten, die israelische Politik zu kritisieren.

The story of the 15-month deployment of 5/73 Cav to Iraq in 2006-07, in the soldiers' own words.Finalist, 2020 Army Historical Foundation Distinguished Writing AwardsSelected in 2005 by the Army to be the first airborne reconnaissance squadron, 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, better known as 5-73 CAV, was formed from 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. The members of the squadron were hand-selected by the squadron command team, Lieutenant Colonel Poppas and Command Sergeant Major Edgar. With just more than 400 paratroopers, they were half the size of a full-strength battalion and the smallest unit in the Panther Brigade.The squadron deployed to eastern Diyala in August, 2006. Despite their size, they were tasked with an enormous mission and were given the largest area of operations within the brigade. Appropriately for a unit known by the call sign of its CO--Headhunter--5-73 would go on to pursue various terrorist factions including Al Qaeda in Iraq. They got results, and 5-73 was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for launching the Turki Bowl campaign from November 2006 to January 2007 against insurgent groups in Diyala Province. However the toll would be heavy--the squadron lost twenty-two paratroopers during the deployment.Headhunter is a unique account of the War on Terror. Akademische Arbeit aus dem Jahr 2018 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Asien, Universität Stuttgart (Historisches Institut), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der palästinensisch-israelische Konflikt steht seit geraumer Zeit im Fokus der Weltöffentlichkeit, bestimmt außenpolitisches Verhalten führender Nationen, Wahlkämpfe in verschiedenen Staaten, gesellschaftliche Umbrüche, internationale Protestbewegungen. Der Konflikt hat eine so große Ausstrahlungskraft, dass er mitunter als Nahostkonflikt beschrieben wird, obwohl dieser nur einen kleinen Teil des nahöstlichen Raumes betrifft und andere Konflikte, zumindest medial, in den Hintergrund stellt. Eine einschneidende Entwicklung im sogenannten Nahost-konflikt war hierbei die Formierung des palästinensischen Widerstandes gegen die israelische Obrigkeit durch die Gründung der Palestine Liberation Organisation, kurz PLO, im Jahr 1964. Die bis heute bestehende Organisierung des palästinensischen Volkes innerhalb dieser Organisation hatte in ihrer Gründungszeit Mitte der Sechziger Jahre diverse politische, ideologische, militärische und historische Entwicklungen manifestiert. Anhand ihrer Gründung lassen sich die damaligen Konflikte und Kämpfe regional, als auch global, herauslesen. Welche Tendenzen lassen sich hierbei aus der Gründung der PLO für diese Zeit ableiten? Wie bildete sich die Entwicklung des palästinensischen Widerstandes gegen Israel innerhalb der regionalen Gegebenheiten bis zur Gründung der PLO ab? Wie kam es zum Entschluss, dem palästinensischem Volk diese Organisations-plattform zu schaffen? Welcher war der historische und politische Überbau, auf dem die Gründung der PLO fußt? Diesen Fragen will diese Arbeit nachgehen.Hierbei werden zunächst die historischen Gegebenheiten zu Beginn des 20. Jahr-hunderts skizziert und auf die gesellschaftlichen Umbrüche in Nahost eingegangen. Anschließend folgt ein kurzer Abriss der ideologischen und politischen Überlegungen, die aus diesem gesellschaftlichen Wandel entsprungen sind und Theoretiker als auch Politiker in ihrem Handeln zu dieser Zeit beeinflussten. Abschließend werden die politischen Entwicklungen im Bezug auf die Region Nahost als auch globale Ereignisse erläutert, die schließlich zur Gründung der PLO führten.

Since its outbreak, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been shaped by international involvement. These external engagements in the conflict are primarily transmitted to Jewish Israelis through the Israeli mass media. These media portrayals shape not only perceptions of the "global" attitudes towards the conflict, but in so doing they also influence and legitimize domestic political debates and decisions. This research is guided by the question how Israeli news­papers represent international involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. How is the involvement contextualized and how qualified? Do societal constructs and beliefs shape the media representations and if so, in which manner? Do media representations differ in times of crisis and routine? Margret Müller explores these questions in a content analysis of the four general daily Israeli newspapers' media coverage during the Gaza flotilla raid 2010.
