Sam Strong is one of the original mine owners of Cripple Creek, Colorado, and has become a multimillionaire overnight. Suddenly, he finds himself surrounded by jealous thugs, marauding gunslingers, a slew of gold-digging women, an overabundance of whiskey and gambling, salacious liaisons, and other untold luxuries of the rich in the 1890s gold rush. Then he falls madly in love with Lillian, a beautiful physician from a family of well-known politicians. Sam wants to believe his life is finally complete, but, in fact, it becomes even more complicated. Abominable vices have beset this small, quickly growing gold-mining town-vices that bring on violent strikes, assassins, and underhanded schemes of every form, including a good number of threats on life and property. Based on true events, Notorious Love in Extraordinary Times follows Sam as he attempts to pull himself from a past of wild living yet still wishing to maintain his grip on the immediate pleasures to which he's become accustomed. But there are now circumstances that were created years before-hopeless and dire-that will likely lay waste to his and Lillian's lives...at least in the absence of some very careful maneuvering and a whole lot of luck.
