But what he stumbles upon is even more fantastic than he could ever imagine. But how do you prove you saw something amazing these days without the help of a camera or smartphone? The Feather Necklace is inspired by Peru's Western Amazonia and the people who live there. It is home to hundreds of species, especially birds most people have never heard of. On the surface, the story illustrates the wonder and mystery of the rainforest. More subtly, it displays how important indigenous researchers are to the well-being of Earth's most diverse ecosystems.

Brian Mulcahey has been an educator and scientist for the last decade. He received his Bachelors in Zoology and Mandarin from the University of Vermont and a Masters in Teaching Biological Science from Miami University. In 2023, he received the National Science Teacher Association's Yager Award for Excellence in Teaching. His extensive field experience includes studying birds of the South Pacific, the Yucatan Peninsula, and the Peruvian Amazon. Brian believes that one of the best ways to support wildlife conservation is by shining the light on the knowledge and effort by indigenous scientists and communities.
