The Thought of Pope Benedict XVI
This important and illuminating book focuses on Ratzinger's status as one of the preeminent Catholic theologians of the 20th century. Aidan Nichols provides a full-scale investigation of his theology as it develops from the 1950s onward. The book presents a chronological account of the development of Ratzinger's writing which reflects a wide range of historical and theoretical interests such as: Augustine's ecclesiology, early Franciscanism and the idea of salvation history, Christian brotherhood, the unfolding of the Second Vatican Council, the Apostles' Creed, explorations of the concept of the Church, preaching, liturgy and Church music, eschatology, the foundations of dogmatic and moral theology, and the problem of pluralism.

This third edition, as well as providing a two-chapter-long biography of Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, and amplifying the account already given of his later pre-papal writings, describes the new thinking that belongs to the years of Benedict's pontificate. That comprises his trilogy of books on Jesus of Nazareth, his quartet of encyclicals, and the set of major speeches he gave at global venues, chiefly on the contribution of faith to culture and civil society. An expanded Conclusion, weighing the lasting significance of his work, leads into a presentation of the themes of his posthumous essay collection - the 'curtain-call' he entitled 'What is Christianity?'

Hel kyrka

Theater and Film
With "Theater and Film: A Christian Perspective," Paul Kuritz revises his acclaimed book, "The Fiery Serpent: A Christian Theory of Film and Theater," through the perspective of the ancient Orthodox church. Following the lead of the great Russian filmmaker Andrey Tarkovsky, who asked, "Perhaps our capacity to create is evidence that we ourselves were created in the image of God?" Kuritz examines Moses' bronze serpent as a paradigm for understanding the Christian artist's work in theater and film. The reader will discover how a Christian artist can make theater and film in union with Christ, so that the work is not merely that of an individual, but of his common life with and in Christ.

Sickness and Healing
This book deals with a subject rarely chosen for study in either Missiology or Anthropology. By combining new research methods from cognitive anthropology with older methods of the culture-and-personality school, it describes and analyzes the life history of an African individual. Thus, it finally draws conclusions of a more missiological character. What Robert Badenberg has successfully brought to light is one important aspect of the dialectic between culture and the individual. His argumentation is consistent and easy to follow. It begins with the general concept of body and sickness. The second part of his writing begins with the quest for healing, focusing on personal and cultural concepts. It ends with missiological conclusions about the individual in his cultural context: communication, conversion, counseling. In his thesis the author is breaking new ground. To missionaries and anthropologists alike the book provides a wealth of information and models to be used in follow-up research. Robert Badenberg, born 1961. 1976-1979 training in Mechanical Engineering. From 1982-1987 theological studies at the Seminary of Liebenzell Mission International. Missionary to Zambia/Southern Africa from 1989 to 2003. 1999 he earned a M.A. in Missiology from the external study center of Columbia International University in Germany with a thesis that investigated Bemba anthropology, a tribal group in the northern part of Zambia. Doctoral Studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA) which culminated in this dissertation that earned him a Doctor of Theology degree in Missiology in 2001.

Holy War
Temple Mount is believed by some Jews to be the locus of their ancient Temple. Known to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif (the Noble Sanctuary), this site is home to two mosques, one of which is the third most holy shrine in all of Islam. Jewish fundamentalists want to destroy the mosques on Temple Mount and rebuild the Temple. Christian apocalypticists are financing and supporting their efforts. If the mosques are destroyed, Islamic fundamentalists have vowed to destroy Israel, resulting in the possibility of nuclear war. This book addresses the idea that the recent rise of militant Christian, Jewish, and Muslim fundamentalisms and their interaction are endangering peace in the Middle East. It fully examines the thesis that apocalypticist fundamentalists--Christians in America, Jews in Israel and America--are working together to hasten the coming of the Messiah by instigating a Holy War in the Middle East. Several chapters focus on three U.S. political figures--Jerry Falwell, Ronald Reagan, and Pat Robertson--who helped bring Christian fundamentalism into the mainstream of American politics. One chapter tells of Jewish preparations for rebuilding the Temple on Temple Mount. Other chapters document the rise of religious fundamentalism in Israel since 1967, Haram al-Sharif-Temple Mount crises involving Christian-Jewish cooperation, and the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. Separate chapters are devoted to Israel's nuclear program and political psychology, and the fact that nuclear weapons are leaving Russia and finding their way to Islamic nations and Islamic terrorists.
