Searching for Home: Haiku
These haikus relate to the immigrant experience of first generation Indian immigrants, particularly their dislocation, homesickness and assimilation in a society that is vastly different than the one they left behind. In essence, it is about searching for a lost home. The book also reflects starkly different landscapes, flora and fauna of two countries--India and the United States/ These haikus also provide a message that is both cautionary and instructive, difficult yet uplifting. Ultimately, it is an inspiring tale of how to survive as an immigrant woman and succeed in America. It is an all-American story-and a timely one given the atmosphere created by the current powers-that-be at the national level.

Jahrhunderts.

Long Rain
Long Rain is an exquisite collection of five line poems (tanka) and short prose (haibun), organized around the elements: Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. Here, Moore expands on the rich history of African-American writers such as Richard Wright, Sonya Sanchez and James Emanuel, creating a masterful transformation of the Japanese tradition into a sharply observant and quietly defiant poetry of the Black experience in America.

Spring and a Thousand Years (Unabridged)
Finalist, 2020 Miller Williams Poetry Prize

Inspired by Matsuo Basho's writings and teachings on poetics and haiku, the interrelated lyric poems in Sky of Wu investigate work and marriage, the question of becoming a parent while watching a parent age into dementia, and the realities of wrestling with inequality, pollution, and habitat loss while navigating everyday life in Oakland, California. Simultaneously, they converse with Chinese poets from the eighth century and Japanese writers from the eleventh and seventeenth centuries. From these disparate sources, Halebsky weaves together small moments, stolen phrases, and images of beauty, allowing them to reveal their own sly humor and unvarnished truth.

Messages from Salt Water
Sabrina Ito's poetry chapbook, Messages from Salt Water explores how love, betrayal, discovery and acceptance drive and define our relationships with others, as well as with ourselves. Autobiographical in nature, these poems chronicle various stages of Ito's personal life - from her childhood experiences in Japan, to her adult years in Canada and the USA. Displacement, racial identity and unresolved relationships feature as predominant themes, while water symbolism unifies the collection. Simple, yet evocative, Ito's poetic style invokes the natural Japanese landscapes where many of her poems take place. An honest and sincere portrayal of how life-changing moments are often fleeting and indefinable, Messages from Salt Water is narrative poetry at its best - accessible stories told through lyrical language, that readers will want to revisit and re-experience again, and again.

Haiku for Today's World
"Reading should be proactive. And in one's writings, one ought always strive to encourage this proactivity in the reader. Much like a coach, or a fan, cheering a player on to greater and greater feats- only in literature, the field-of-play is a book of poetry, or prose, or as in this case- haiku."- Jon SeymourIn his first ever commercial work, Jon Seymour has done just that- enticing the reader with his Haiku-inspired musings on myriad things, both universal and unique to our time. A stimulating and truly enjoyable read- you're likely to find yourself referencing these triplets in your everyday conversations. No cranes, cherry blossoms or lotus leaves here- just the everyday subject matter which people vexed over hundreds (if not thousands) of years ago... and continue to do so, to this very day. With more than a few thoughts on items unique to our epoch. This universal appeal with a modern twist, will make it difficult for you to put Haiku down once you've started reading it. A page-turner, if ever there was one!

Waka-Cola
Begun two decades ago as a tanka sequence dedicated to Roy Lichtenstein, R. W. Watkins's Waka-Cola is the long-awaited fourth title in the Poetical Perspectives series from Nocturnal Iris. Throughout the volume, Watkins pays tribute to most of the major American masters of 1950s and '60s pop art and neo-dada, utilising the Japanese tanka-or waka-form of poetry to emulate their styles and concepts. Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Claes Oldenburg, James Rosenquist, George Segal and Ray Johnson are celebrated ever so imaginatively by Watkins, all the while adhering to the traditional 5-7-5-7-7 syllabic structure. The result is a short collection that both demonstrates the poet's ability to transcend the perceived limits of the waka form, and serves as a poetic reflexion of the mid 20th century New York art scene. Highly visual in their application and pop-cultural in their subject matter, these poems foreshadow similar projects forthcoming in the PP series; so watch this space....
