L'origine des puits artésiens n'est pas aussi récente que pourrait le faire supposer leur nom, tiré de la province d'Artois. En France, c'est en effet dans la province d'Artois qu'ont été creusées les premières fontaines jaillissantes, et de là le nom qui a prévalu. Mais bien des siècles avant que la province d'Artois fût constituée, les peuples de l'Orient connaissaient l'art d'aller chercher dans les profondeurs de la terre l'eau des nappes invisibles, et de la faire monter à la surface du sol, où on l'employait pour tous les usages domestiques et pour les besoins de l'agriculture.Les oasis qui parsèment les déserts de la Syrie, de l'Arabie et de l'Egypte, ne doivent leur fertilité qu'à des sources d'eaux jaillissantes pratiquées par la main de l'homme. Or, quelques-unes de ces oasis étaient déjà célèbres dans les premiers temps de l'ère chrétienne, ce qui fait remonter à une époque assez reculée l'origine des puits forés...

This publication presents findings from a climate change risk and adaptation assessment in southern Viet Nam as part of ADB's Water Efficiency Improvement in Drought-Affected Provinces (WEIDAP) project.It highlights new developments and key lessons on climate risk assessment that may be applied to the project design and monitoring as well as the implementation of climate adaptation measures. The WEIDAP project was developed in response to the drought that affected southern Viet Nam in 2015-2016. It focused on irrigation modernization and the integration of climate-resilient agricultural and efficient on-farm water management practices.

An important requirement in agriculture is controlled and regulated irrigation. It refers to the application of water in requisite amounts to crops at regular intervals.
