I 1971 tok en 21 år gammel norsk gutt båten til Danmark. Vi følger ham på hans haiketur gjennom Europa, Midtøsten til India, noen ganger alene, andre ganger med reisefølge. Deler av reisen gikk langs det berømte 'hippie trail'. Turen foregikk ved innfallsmetoden som tok ham ad lange omveier gjennom pussige, spennende og noen ganger farlige situasjoner.
